Bed Sizes (Part 2 of 3)

In the previous article, we already talked about Twin, Single, and Extra-Long Twin Beds. If you need a summary, basically, the three of them are of the similar size. Twin and Single are the same, just different names. However, like its name suggests, Extra-Long Twin Beds is 5” longer than the standard Twin Beds.

In this article, we will talk about a Double, a Full, and a Queen size bed. Where do we can put these three types of bed sizes? Learn about them here:

1. Double beds and Full beds are basically the same. They are most commonly used by two people to sleep
until the 1960’s. The overall dimensions of this bed is 54” wide x 75” long. This size is 15” wider than a Twin/Single bed. Each adults has only 27” of personal/sleep space. So, it is actually must less than a twin. Some taller adults might find this bed too short.

For people who are less than 5’5” tall, Double/Full beds are suitable for them, especially for a single sleeper.
This bed can fit into smaller rooms and has cheaper bedding (sheets) than queen or king size. But, as we have mentioned before, some taller people find this bed too short. Also, if two share the bed, they probably think it were too narrow.

2. Queen size
A queen size bed has the overall dimensions of 60” wide x 80” long. It is 21” wider and 5” longer than a Twin bed. It is also 6” wider and 5” longer than ad Double/Full size bed. However, if two adults sleep in the Queen Size bed, the width per person is only 30”; 9” less of width than if they each slept in Twin/Singles beds.

If so, what are the pros and cons of sleeping in Queen size bed? Of course it gives more space than a
Double/Full bed. It is also has cheaper bedding than King Size. However, with only 3” more of personal
space for each person than a Double, if it is meant for everyday sleeping for a couple, it might be too narrow. With those opinions in mind, Queen Size beds are arguably the best choice to put in guest rooms and small master bedrooms.

Aside from Queen size, there is a slightly larger bed called an “Olympic Queen.” You should always consult
the salesperson so that you get the correct size. If you do want to pick up an Olympic Queen, you need to consider the availability of the sheets/bedding. You can cut down a king-size bedding to cover up the Olympic Queen. However, this needs extra costs to the purchase.
